PLASMATICS: Groundbreaking 'Coup D'etat' Chainsaws Its Way Back Into Print
February 15, 2008Caroline Records has announced the re-release of the classic "Coup D'etat" album by the legendary PLASMATICS!
One of the wildest groups ever to come out of New York (and that's saying something),the PLASMATICS were formed by Rod Swenson in the '70s as a band/confrontational art project. While other groups played at being dangerous, the PLASMATICS truly were, frequently blowing up cars at their shows and cranking out a remarkable punk rock racket. Lead singer Wendy O Williams typically appeared onstage topless, and the band were persecuted by local lawmakers everywhere they went, much like the early SEX PISTOLS.
The album was called "best slice of heavy metal since the last AC/DC album" by the L.A. Times. The band toured opening for KISS and MOTÖRHEAD's Lemmy proclaimed "This chick is f*cking excellent!" But "Coup D'etat" took fans and critics alike by surprise the album did not connect and quickly went out print. In the years since, it has been rightfully been critically reappraised as a groundbreaking fusion of punk and metal.
This marks the album's first CD release in the US. This limited edition re-release is presented re-mastered in a Japanese style mini-vinyl sleeve reproduction of the original vinyl release.
